Imperial Ballet

Ballet is an excellent way of developing strength, flexibility, control and improving posture. The ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet syllabi have been carefully developed in order to provide a fully comprehensive training both for children and young adults. Each grade consists of set exercises and a dance, which is assessed by an external examiner. Children in this class will have an opportunity of working towards the ISTD graded examinations.

Modern Jazz Dance

This ISTD modern syllabus has proved extremely popular due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the changing fashion in dance. The syllabus combines modern dance, jazz and other dance styles. Children will learn set exercises and dances choreographed to popular music. They will also have the opportunity of working towards the ISTD graded examinations.
The ISTD Jazz Awards provide a basic grounding in modern Jazz, and are ideal for the late beginner or as a recreational course of movement. Boys’ work has been developed to meet increasing demand for a modern dance training for boys.

Tap Dance

Tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. It is excellent for developing musicality, co-ordination and also great fun. Each grade consists of set exercises and a dance, which is assessed by an external examiner. Children in this class will have an opportunity of working towards the ISTD graded examinations.

The Dang: Theatre and Dance Syllabus

The Dang Theatre and Dance Syllabus was created to offer up to date, industry relevant and well- rounded training programmes in various areas of Dance and Musical Theatre. It is designed to develop triple-threat performers and focuses on a holistic process of nurturing talent through progressive training.

The Dang: Street and Commercial Dance

The Dang Street and Commercial dance syllabus offers a progressive structure for young dancers to gain achievement and improvement in several genres of dance widely used within the industry: hip-hop, commercial, locking, popping, house and breaking. Students have the opportunity to specialise in particular styles, whilst learning how to improvise and perform choreographed routines. There are graded examinations and also medal tests available. This type of dance is energetic and upbeat and involves spins, kicks and leaps with lots of armography and body isolations. You will experience a fusion of modern music and dance styles, encouraging freedom of expression and artistry. Because the nature of freestyle is so diverse – routines and music are influenced by modern jazz and commercial dance. Each lesson will include a warm up and set of short combination steps followed by a routine, which will be added to each week.

The Dang: Musical Theatre

In these classes children will develop skills in dance, singing and acting. They will learn short combinations and longer dance routines that integrate these skills and work towards a themed project each term. Through our expert tuition, students will build confidence in reading and speaking out loud, challenge their performance skills and work as a team. Each lesson consists of a vocal and physical warm up, followed by a song and dance routine and/or script work. In all Under 11s classes the dance technique studied is Jazz and Street and Commercial Dance.

Acrobatic Arts and Aerial Arts

Acrobatic Arts is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. It is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required.

From September 2023, we will be incorporating Radar Technique into our Jazz and Acrobatic Arts classes. Radar Technique is Australia’s leading technique and conditioning program for dancers and athletes. It focuses on pirouettes, kick turns, dance conditioning, jumps/leaps and dance tricks. This unique programme teaches the dancer HOW to analyse dance technique and apply this to their own future learning.

The Acrobatic Arts programme is designed to promote excellence in tumbling, flexibility, strength, balance, contortion and partner/group stunting for dancers. As part of the training, children will develop flexibility, and technique required to perform tumbling and partner/group tricks on stage as part of a complete dance routine. Dancers who train through Acrobatic Arts have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless. They are also more skilled, have fewer accidents, and are less likely to develop chronic injuries.

We also offer Aerial silks, hoop and trapeze. This is excellent for upper body and core strength and also compliments the Acrobatic Arts training programme, allowing students to combine dance, acrobatics and circus skills.

Contemporary and Lyrical Dance

Contemporary dance combines elements modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. While some contemporary dancers create characters, theatrical events, or stories, others perform entirely new creations as they improvise in their own unique style.

In this class we will explore different styles of contemporary dance through technical exercises, sequences, improvisation, choreography and performance of repertoire. We will also integrate the new ISTD Contemporary syllabus into this class for the training of technique.
