What are we looking for?
What We’re Looking For
Maidstone Homeless Care is seeking a passionate, strategic, and proactive individual to join our Board of Trustees as our Marketing & Communications lead. This is a pivotal opportunity to use your professional skills to make a real and lasting difference in your local community.
You’ll bring experience in marketing, communications, or public relations—ideally with a strategic mindset and the confidence to contribute ideas and oversight at board level. Whether you’re a seasoned marketing professional or someone looking to give back, you’ll understand the power of storytelling, brand-building, and audience engagement in driving charitable impact.
We’re particularly interested in someone who can take a big-picture view while supporting delivery. You’ll help shape a cohesive marketing strategy and offer guidance to staff and volunteers, advise on content and campaigns, and help us build our presence across digital and traditional platforms.
A solid understanding of how communications intersect with compliance, safeguarding, and reputation management in the charity sector would be valuable. Experience with digital tools, content creation, or delivering impact on limited budgets is a bonus—but not essential.
More than anything, we’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to tackling homelessness and hardship. You don’t need prior board experience—just a willingness to learn, a collaborative approach, and a desire to help us grow and thrive.
Qualities and Attributes We Value:
- Experience in marketing, communications, PR, or digital media
- Strategic thinking with a hands-on mindset
- Strong grasp of branding, campaigns, and audience engagement
- Awareness of governance, compliance, or charity regulation (or willingness to learn)
- Confidence to provide insight and challenge at board level
- Supportive, solutions-focused, and a team player
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Lived experience of homelessness or housing insecurity is welcomed, and we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds—diversity strengthens our board and helps us better serve our community.
This voluntary role requires 5–10 hours per month, including attendance at monthly board meetings (typically the second Tuesday, 5–7pm). Full training, support, and a warm welcome await.
What difference will you make?
As Marketing & Communications Trustee at Maidstone Homeless Care (MHC), your influence will go far beyond the boardroom. You will play a critical role in shaping how the charity is seen, heard, and supported—helping us reach more people, secure vital funding, and build lasting community connections.
MHC is a small but deeply impactful organisation supporting those experiencing homelessness or crisis in Maidstone. While our services have transformed countless lives over the past 30 years, we know that more people need to know about the work we do, the challenges our clients face, and how they can help.
By developing and guiding our marketing and communications strategy, you will help us raise awareness of these issues, attract new supporters and partners, and strengthen our reputation in the community. Your leadership will help ensure our messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with our values and strategic goals.
With your input, we’ll be able to tell more powerful stories, launch more effective campaigns, and communicate our impact in ways that inspire action. From enhancing our digital presence to advising on press and public relations, your expertise will enable us to be more proactive and professional in how we present ourselves to the world.
Ultimately, your role will help us grow - not just in visibility, but in capacity, resilience, and influence. By amplifying our voice, you’ll be helping us advocate for those who often go unheard, ensuring that MHC can continue to be a beacon of support, dignity, and hope for the most vulnerable in our community.
