Join Maidstone Homeless Care as the Supported Housing Trustee and play a key role in providing stability to those facing homelessness. This voluntary role combines strategic oversight with a hands-on approach to ensuring safe, supportive housing.

What will you be doing?

Maidstone Homeless Care (MHC) has been supporting individuals facing homelessness and hardship in Maidstone for over 30 years. Through our food bank, day centre, and supported housing, we provide essential resources, guidance, and safe accommodation to those in need.

The Opportunity

Our board is navigating a period of change and growth, aiming to strengthen governance, enhance our supported housing services, and secure long-term sustainability. As demand for our services rises and the regulatory landscape evolves, we seek a committed Supported Housing Trustee to help shape our future. This trustee will provide strategic oversight, ensure compliance, and support the development of our housing initiatives to offer effective, compassionate support.

Key Responsibilities

In addition to the general duties of a trustee, this role focuses on overseeing our supported housing initiatives, including:

  • Strategy & Development – Collaborating with the board and staff to shape the long-term future of supported housing at MHC
  • Governance & Compliance – Ensuring legal and regulatory responsibilities are met, including preparation for inspections
  • Tenant Support & Service Delivery – Advising staff on delivering a sensitive, effective housing management service
  • Financial & Risk Oversight – Helping ensure stability and best use of resources for supported housing
This voluntary role requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per month, including attending board meetings (held on the second Tuesday of each month, 5-7pm). Support and training are available.

Join us and help provide safe housing and brighter futures for those who need it most.

What are we looking for?

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in housing, property management, governance, or social care, but equally value lived experience of homelessness or frontline work in the sector. Ideal candidates will be:

  • Passionate about tackling homelessness and housing insecurity
  • Knowledgeable about corporate governance and risk management in housing
  • Strategic thinkers with the ability to assess and develop long-term plans
  • Strong communicators with the confidence to challenge and contribute to board discussions
  • Committed to MHC’s mission, bringing time, expertise, and sound judgment

What difference will you make?

As a Supported Housing Trustee at Maidstone Homeless Care (MHC), you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, stable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Your leadership will guide the charity’s strategic direction, governance, and compliance, ensuring services remain effective, sustainable, and legally sound.

By enhancing service quality, you will help tenants access not just housing but also essential support services, from mental health resources to employment assistance. Your oversight will ensure that MHC’s supported housing is compassionate, well-managed, and continuously improving to meet the needs of vulnerable individuals.

Your strategic insight will shape the long-term future of MHC’s housing initiatives, driving growth, securing funding, and exploring innovative housing solutions. Through sound financial stewardship, you will help sustain and expand these vital services, ensuring long-term impact.

Beyond governance, your advocacy will strengthen community collaboration, fostering partnerships that enhance MHC’s ability to address homelessness holistically. Your influence will extend beyond the organisation, helping to create a more coordinated, supportive environment for those in need.

Ultimately, your role will transform lives, providing stability, dignity, and pathways to independence for some of the most vulnerable members of society.
